The year of living piggishly #2

Out to Chinatown to attempt to see the show but the thousands of other people who have decided to do the same whilst carrying balloons shaped like pig-heads impede our view somewhat so we decamp to the Panton Street pub to meet Claire, Gareth, DJ, Jervis and assorted Maidenheaders. There are fireworks at 5, but 5 in late February is light and we go down the Strand to the best little pubhouse in WC2. In the last dying days of the Major government, I came here with a Tory work colleague and I got the impression that it was a cityboy place, but we stake out the lovely candle-lit basement and have pints of Landlord and a tasty vegetarian roast dinner for very reasonable prices. It's what the billion people in China would have wanted. Oh, and political freedom.
