We will have salad
Mar. 14th, 2007 10:14 amMost people of a certain age will remember Opus III's lazy Ibiza-y summer 1993 hit It's a Fine Day, but not all of them will know the vocal was sampled from Barton and Jane's accapella non-hit on Cherry Red 10 years earlier. I do like the Opus III version, but it misses out the middle 8 which goes:
Sitting in this field
I remember how we were going to sit in this field
But never quite did
Rain or appointments or something
Rain or appointments or something....
- which is a great counterpoint to the ebullient joy of the first day of summer the rest of the song evokes; the knowledge that optimisim fades, wishes aren't fulfilled and you're left bewildered as to how things went wrong. Brilliantly, the song then goes back into the verse - we know the realities of life, but that doesn't mean we're not going to not grab happiness, we're still going to try: again, again, again.
Anyway, here it is for your downloadable delectation.
