The city's heart begins to beat
Aug. 3rd, 2011 09:40 amTo Kingston for the nuptials of Dave#1 and Rebecca.

After the service, we get a red London Routemaster to the Wych Elm, a pub I first visited in 1992. It's still owned by the same people - they put on a buffet and a half before we get the bus to Fulham Football Club for the reception. We do a guided tour around the stadium, the tour guide telling us gossip about Mancini and Mark Hughes.

The meal is indoors, but we can stand on the terrace watching the sun sink into the Thames. Leaving, we pass the Michael Jackson statue in all of its purple backlit glory. He really should have children at his feet. Surprised that Al Fayed didn't erect a statue of Di and Dodi that the footballers would pass as they went into the tunnel.
