Dooms Day

I didn't take part in the BBC Domesday Project in 1986, probably because I was 13 and more interested in cider and Morten Harket than contributing to future history. Tickhill, the South Yorks village that if it were in Oxfordshire would be cooed over by broadsheet journalists rather than by commuting couples and retired old folk, seems to have contributed quite a lot of information. This in particular brought back some not entirely pleasant memories. I think I ran the eggs-in-sawdust game one year (not voluntarily) although of course I didn't get to be the Sunday School Queen or one of her her attendants, being as I was, a heathen unbeliever and not a pretty little girl. This is more interesting - my dad was the treasurer of the Anglo-French Association and we had a rather good jolly over to France in the autumn of 1985. We took an overnight ferry and I woke up in Paris as we were circumnavigating the Arc de Triomphe. I also seem to remember being on the "decorated float" as the world's least convincing 13 year old can-can girl. They makes their own fun in the countryside. Which is why I now live in a city.
