The Saturdays
Nov. 18th, 2012 05:40 pmTwo Saturdays ago we visited the new Tanks at the Tate, fantastic space but rather ill-used with somewhat tedious abstract video-art filling it. Onto The Miller pub (to meet Robert et al), which is a sort of estate-boozer as used by studenty types, all psychedelic wallpaper and ironic metal nights in the function room. Last Saturday, I went to the Photographer’s Gallery with Claire and Ceri to see the Shoot! exhibition. Claire's friend, who works there, kindly gave us blue stickers that gave us free entry. Claire paid to go on the shooting gallery and got a bullseye on her final go, winning her a Polaroid of her bad-ass, gun-toting self. The rest of the exhibition showed various people holding weapon, either pop-rifles (Simone de Beavuour and her boyfriend JP Sartre here):

or actual guns. One curtained-off space showed a loop of pistol action shots from movies coning from four walls of video screens. The film lasted seven minutes, I lasted about one. The most interesting exhibit was a Dutch woman who was photographed at the local fayre every year since 1936. Now in her 90s, she still attends, often with her fan club. Fascinating to see her age over 60-odd years with the prizes and people and fashions behind her changing.
