Book: Fludd by Hilary Mantel.
Song: Jingle Jangle Morning by Mary Lou Lord. This song got into my head and would not leave. There must have been a theme of early 90s indie frustration: in this song she longs to move to Seattle or LA. In the Magnetic Fields' 100,000 Fireflies, Claudia wonders why they still live in this repulsive town when all their friends are in NYC.
