the longest day

Went downstairs to help in the office as they were inundated with parents wondering how their kids are going to get home. There was a call from vodaphone about someone's new mobile order. My "professional phone voice" was pretty rattled. One of the teaching assistants brought round chocolates and the IT gal made everyone tea and coffee. The school secretary arranged a lift for me. My American friend, whom I emailed after the 9/11 attacks contacted me to see if I was OK, which made me start crying. One of my friends has been arrested in Edinburgh, non al-Qaeda related. No doubt the government will be pushing through those ID cards (cos it worked in Spain, no) and reneging our civil liberties until we're living in the kind of world al-Qaeda would be happy in.
It's sort of a relief that it's happened; if that's not a vilely insensitive thing to say. I mean, we've been expecting it for almost four years.
