When I first went to Camden aged 15 I was interested in jewellery, y’know, skull rings, studded bracelets, tie-dye skirts: that kinda gothing. Later, when I visited London sans parents, it was the 2nd hand clothes I was into: dresses for a quid, sparkly suits for a fiver. When I moved here the Gull Bookshop wiled away several of my hours. Nowadays, I go straight to the food court and have Turkish or Moroccan or Greek or Thai or Columbian scran. After soba noodles ‘n’ curry and imam bayaldi and olives, we go up to Chalk Farm and I fulfil one of my 8 year old fantasies and meet Shakin’ Stevens go to an ice cream parlour, where I have a Coppa Alda (chocolate and tiramisu ice cream topped with hot fudge sauce, nuts and a gallon of whipped cream). Dave with his maple walnut, mint choc chip, double choc chip and amoretti biscuit selection sinks into a diabetic coma whereas I go on a sugar trip and start to see trails when I move my hand.
