Went to a party the other night

There's something about Christmas and death: inextricably linked. As if the dying can't face another turkey and sprout dinner. My granddad died on Christmas Day (1980) and my grandmother on the week before Christmas 21 years later. My paternal grandma managed to hang on until January. She liked stuffing and apple sauce. As for the people whose obits make the news, I bet bookies take secret bets about which celeb will cark it on 25th December.
So James Brown going to the big dancehall in the metaphorical sky on Christmas Day means that 11 months after his death, Wilson Pickett doesn't make any of the 2006 lists.
Here he is doing one of the great dance songs of all time. I love him. Happy New Year.
