Autumn 50 - number 31

Bob - Convenience

The first schmindie entry, by which I mean that no-one wrote about Jesus Jones in their fanzine, but Bob were 'zine stalwarts. I was quite surprised to find this on youtube; the problem with the digital age is that you might be able to get rid of all those records and CDs that are so heavy to shift when you move house, but the songs that made you smile, the songs that saved your life, are not there on the internet, and so you have to keep your old tapes, your old flexis in case you need to hear that song that'll never be on the radio again.

Anyway, this zips along at a good old pace, nice jangles, rousing chorus, great haircuts. I imagine they'd listened to a few Orange Juice records.

This one has turned up as an mp3 on iTunes (and other such outlets) for the first time ever recently, which caused me to buy it (never did get a vinyl copy at the time, having to make do with a taped version off John Peel). It does still sound bloody wonderful.

There was a band I really liked from that era, the Librarians, who were yer common or garden Smiths copyists, but sometimes I find myself singing one of their songs & I can never listen to it again as a) I lost the tape and b) it aint on the internet.
