I got a lift back home with the car that takes one of the Islington pupils home which arrived 2 hours late - and if you think I'm not claiming that as overtime....;-) As we drove through Clapham through Stockwell up to Elephant, there were buses and trains and cars and bikes and people sitting outside pubs and everything seemed just normal. In 20 days, I'll have lived here for 10 years; hopefully I've earned the right to call myself a Londoner:- I feel pretty attached to this city and I abhor the fact that it, and we, are being used as cannon fodder in the insane battle between the war on terror-ists and the holy jihad. These extremists, these people who on one hand think bombing third world countries will stop attacks on western buildings and transport and on the other believe in a bizarre narrow vicious world, are nothing to do with us, the moralfuckingmajority. The people who died at Aldgate and Tavistock Square are casualties of a war in which we have no choice. They’re the tommies in the trenches drowning in mud and gas with Bushblair and Bin Laden as the crazy fucked-up Generals.

The driver, who went out of her way to drop us at Angel, wore a shalwar kameez and I and the teacher sat in the back in silence, flanking the pupil whose surname is Mohammed – I felt as if we were protecting him from the moronic attacks which will no doubt happen to Muslims by idiots who don’t understand that violence begets violence begets violence begets violence begets violence begets….just like George and Tony and Osama. Fortunately, most Londoners aren’t like that and I’ve yet to hear tales of looting, robbing dead bodies, crank phone calls, café’s charging victims for water or bogus websites. Everything I’ve read about the reaction to today’s events has been positive. Yesterday, the Olympic Bid, was supposed to be our finest hour, but I think today, the We’ve Lived Through The Blitz, 60’s Architectural Planning, Thatcher and the IRA London Spirit is more of a victory.
